What Are Cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. Well-known cannabinoids include THC and CBD, but there are actually over 100 distinct cannabinoids found in cannabis plants. Each of these cannabinoids have their own unique chemical properties, and interact with the endocannabinoid system in various ways to produce different effects on the mind and body.

Delta 9 THC

THC is short for Tetrahydrocannabinol and it is the most commonly known psychoactive cannabinoid found in marijuana flower and cannabis products. If you’ve used cannabis before, you’ve most likely had Delta 9 THC. Whether smoked, eaten or vaped, THC produces the feeling people typically describe as a high. All of our cannabis products are tested and labeled with the percentage of THC found in the product. While some users prefer a high THC marijuana others prefer strains where CBD or another cannabinoid are more dominant. The percentage of THC in cannabis is only one of many factors that impact how you’ll feel during and after use. Our budtenders can help steer you to the best options for you.

CBD

CBD stands for Cannabidiol. Unlike THC, CBD is non-intoxicating and does not produce the sensation of being high but it does offer a wide range of proven health benefits. High CBD products can be used to treat anxiety, insomnia, nausea, pain, inflammation and even seizures. 100% CBD products are federally legal and are available as CBD oils, creams, edibles, tinctures, and more. Some medical marijuana dispensaries offer CBD-only products. We don’t currently carry any CBD-only products at Star Buds, but you can find a great variety of high-CBD options at all of our stores and online.

Some Cannabinoids You May Not Have Heard Of

  • Delta 8 THC – Delta 8 is similar to Delta 9 THC, but offers a more clear-headed high.
  • Delta 10 THC – More difficult to extract than Delta 8, you’ll see this one less often but Delta 10 offers a nice energizing high.
  • THCA – Doesn’t produce a THC-like high, but more of a general chill vibe.
  • THCV – Unlike THC, many have found THCV to help as an appetite suppressant and many users report feeling energized when they use it.
  • CBN – CBN is a great way to slide into a restful night’s sleep. Don’t take CBN when you’re looking to get things done.
  • CBG – When it’s time to dial it in, many have found that CBG helps them focus on getting things done.
